Established in 1986, 10,000 vines were close planted in red-brown soil 500m above sea level. A commitment has been made to grow the best grapes possible from this site, with shoot positioning on a Scott Henry trellis, organic fertilisers and undervine mulching.
In addition, our strong commitment to sustainability at Leland means we use low impact vineyard practices and equipment, solar power and we are water self sufficient. We have a healthy vegetable garden with fruit trees and each year we increase our native vegetation.
First produced in 1990 in small a quantity. Made using traditional "Burgundy" methods, including whole bunch fermentation with stalks. Usually stored in French oak for 9 months prior to bottling.
A serious Pinot with multilayered berry flavours up front. It has weight and structure in the mouth around a velvet middle and finishing with barnyard complexity - a good acid balance.
First produced in 1990 showing excellent varietal definition. Viticultural techniques including shoot positioning and basal leaf removal have increased gooseberry and tropical fruit flavours in this wine.
The wine has a lovely ripe gooseberry lift and a little lime juice flavour with plenty of length in the finish.
We thoroughly recommend this wine when you are enjoying your favourite long lunch in the garden on a lazy summer day.
